Tana lives in a world where vampires and humans co-exist. Since vampires made their first appearance, humans have created a solution to protect everyone without murdering thousands of the undead. They have built walls enclosing large areas called, Coldtowns. The towns remain guarded and have unique entries to prevent escape and entry. Tana has found herself in Coldtown after a party she attended was attacked by vampires. Tana rescued her ex-boyfriend Aidan and a vampire that had been shackled prior to her escape. The group heads to Coldtown to protect their families.
Commentary and Text Connections:
This fantasy text defies the stereotypical norms for vampires we have known for so long. Being “cured” after being bitten is introduced in Holly Black’s intriguing text. This would be an interesting integrated text with a classic story such as Dracula.
